GET YOUR HANDS OFF ME, YOU DAMN DIRTY APE February 17, 2004 Mel Gibson Filming 'Beneath the Planet of the Passion of the Christ' Hollywood, CA  |  Movie-goers won't be surprised to learn production has already started on a sequel to Mel Gibson's controversial action thriller. Capitalizing on the current wave of publicity, "Beneath the Planet of the Passion of the Christ" takes up where the original plot left off. As one enthusiastic fan noted, "They can't just do a movie where a super hero is created at the end, and then not make a sequel! I hope they make a hundred!" Although probably not a hundred, there is a growing list of proposals under consideration: "Battle for the Planet of the Passion of the Christ" would chronicle the so-called Dark Ages, including the Crusades and the Inquisition, as Christians struggle for world peace and social harmony. "Conquest of the Planet of the Passion of the Christ" would document the introduction of Christianity into The New World, featuring the whacky exploits of Cortez and Pizarro. And "Beyond the Valley of the Planet of the Passion of the Ultra Christians" would reenact centuries of child abuse by the Catholic clergy. For now, anxious film buffs will just have to wait patiently for the first sequel. But luckily, "The Passion of the Christ, Director's Cut" DVD will be available soon. It features 78 extra minutes of Jesus being tormented by Jews, plus cast narration and a blooper reel.
