Rolex Watch Discovered during Colon Biopsy
San Francisco, CA | It was difficult to tell who was more surprised, patient or operating room personnel, when the attending surgeon extracted a wrist watch during an otherwise routine colon procedure at Mount Zion Medical Center.
The gold Rolex was worth enough to pay for the operation several times over. This unexpected windfall was the icing on the cake for the patient, described as a 47 year old caucasian male, whose diagnosis indicated negative for colon cancer.
A review board determined the time piece went undetected on preliminary x-rays because it was obscured by a variety of other objects, including a Coke bottle, a flashlight, a Zippo cigarette lighter, a dozen roses, several Valentine's Day cards, and the skeletal remains of at least six gerbils.
The patient's personal physician said the man hadn't had a periodic physical in several years, and had simply forgotten about the wrist watch.
"Oddly enough," he added, "the patient isn't even gay."
