Internet to Shut Down
for Two Weeks in August

Geneva, CH  |  The Worldwide Web Corporation has announced it will be necessary to bring the Information Superhighway offline for much needed maintenance from Aug. 8 to Aug. 21.

Dr. Tim Berners-Lee at C.E.R.N. in Switzerland says this will be the most extensive overhaul of the internet since 1999.

"We won't be down as long as we were to prepare for Y2K," Dr. Berners-Lee assured. "It's just time to do some tweaking."

An estimated 1.2 billion people will have to get by without the internet for the two week period. However, hospitals and emergency services such as police and fire departments will not be affected by the shut down, nor will companies with their own internal computer networks.

"We apologize for the inconvenience," Dr. Berners-Lee added, "but It's best to take care of these small problems now before they become big problems."
