Jerusalem, IL | The Israeli army has released a sonogram discovered in a family photo album while searching the house of a wanted Palestinian militant in the West Bank city of Hebron.
It shows a fetus, which appears to be in the third trimester, wearing an explosives belt with wires attached and a headband similar to those worn by Palestinian militants. The fetus also appeared to be using a cell phone.
Family members insisted the sonogram was only a joke and was taken during a recent baby shower where "everyone was having a rollicking good time and dancing and stuff." Other family members said it was a fake planted by the army. Still others boasted it was an omen from Allah, accurately representing the next generation of Palestinians.
The authenticity of the sonogram could not be verified, but its publication in Israeli newspapers triggered a new war of words between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
The army did not release the name of the family, nor would they confirm or deny the cell phone was being tapped.
